The Helleborus plant is a welcome sight as early as February and March as it is an early blooming evergreen perennial for your garden or an amazing container plant for outside on your deck or patio to kick off your growing season as we awake from our winter slumber. They will produce amazing waves of colorful blooms usually thru April. After it blooms you will enjoy its unique foliage. Use this plant especially as a centerpiece of an outdoor patio planter or garden surrounded by pansies. If you have never tried to grow one, this is your time. They are extremely easy to grow. They can grow to 18-24 inches high. They are also extremely drought tolerant.
-Place in a shady to part shade location outside your home.
-The key to success with Helleborus is to plant them in well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. We recommend using Bumper Crop Soil Conditioner to make the soil perfect for success.
-Fertilize with Espoma Plant Tone organic granular fertilizer.
When planting in a container follow these instructions:
-Select a sturdy container 1-2 times larger than the pot it came in if you are using it as a stand-alone plant. If you are using it as a centerpiece just center it to add symmetry to your creation. You can use any good planter made of ceramic, terracotta, plastic or wood. Make sure your planter has drainage holes.
-Use quality potting soil like Bumper Crop Gardners Gold potting soil.
-Place the Helleborus in the center of the planter with the crown of the roots just above the soil line.
-Add water slowly and saturate the soil just after transplanting
-Place in a part sun location on your deck or patio.
